About Us
New to Kentville Christian Reformed Church? We welcome you!
Whether you are looking for a physical church to attend, or listening from afar, we welcome you to our congregation. If you are local to Upper Canard in Nova Scotia's beautiful Annapolis Valley and are looking for a Christ centred church that stands on the Word of God, reach out! We would love to connect.
Please note we share the church building with another church who has vastly different theology than we do, and as such they have adorned the church grounds with decorations that do not reflect our theological stance on that issue.
A little about us:
As a Christian church we worship the one Triune God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who has revealed himself to us in the Bible. As sinful human beings, we recognize that we are unable to make ourselves right with a holy God on our own. However, we believe that we are saved from our sins through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, who alone is able to make us right with God. Looking to Christ in faith and repentance means that we belong body and soul, in life and in death, to our faithful saviour Jesus Christ.
We believe that God reveals Himself in only two ways...through general revelation through the creation He has made, and special revelation that is only contained in the sixty-six books of the holy Bible.
We believe the teachings contained in the Old and the New Testament, and in the articles of the Christian faith, and taught in this Christian church, to be the true and complete doctrine of salvation. The Bible is infallible, inerrant, and authoritative...the only rule of life and faith, and the only accurate source to learn of God's redemption plan.
We believe in a literal six day creation as outlined in Genesis 1 and 2.
As a Christian church we affirm the truths contained in the historic ecumenical creeds: the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed.
As a church in the Reformed tradition, we are committed to the centrality of the word of God, and recognize the necessity of worship that is faithful to Scripture.
We believe that the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort are faithful summaries of the Word of God which help guard us from heresy.
In light of societal and cultural trends, we also affirm that marriage is to be only between a man and a woman as our God has designed it to be. We affirm that God created human beings to be male and female, and there is no error. Any such belief against this God ordained created order is a rejection of what God has created and an abomination to Him.
What to Expect At Our Church
Our worship services center around the preaching of God’s Word. We include in our services the elements of worship that God requires of us in his Word: preaching, singing of Psalms and hymns, corporate confession, prayer, offerings, and the celebration of the two sacraments; Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
If you visit one of our worship services, you will participate with us in a sacred, ongoing dialogue between God and His people. God speaks to us through the call to worship, the greeting, the corporate confession of sin, the assurance of pardon, the reading of the Scriptures, the sermon, and the blessing. We respond to God through our songs, our prayers, our profession of our faith in him, and the bringing of our offerings. The combination of listening and responding to God are what constitutes our worship service. Both aspects are acts of worship.
There is no dress code for worship. We simply ask that you be respectful, as is fitting when entering the presence of a Holy God.
